Createx Wicked Colors Multi-Surface Airbrush Paint

Createx Wicked Colors are water-based, multi-surface airbrush paints made with a durable acrylic resin system for art, hobby, custom graphics, automotive-style painting, models, textiles, and prepared hard surfaces. The Wicked range includes transparent, opaque, detail, fluorescent, pearl, metallic, pearl-flake, and coordinated paint-set options for a wide variety of airbrush and spray-gun workflows.

Wicked Colors Paint Families

The Wicked Colors system includes several paint types with different levels of coverage, transparency, particle size, and visual effect. Choosing the right group helps match the paint to the airbrush setup and the finish required.

  • Wicked Transparent Colors: High-pigment transparent graphic colors that may cover semi-opaque at full strength and can be extended for more transparent layering, shading, and gradients.
  • Wicked Detail Colors: A more translucent artist palette made for improved atomization and flow at lower pressure, with a matte finish for detail-oriented work.
  • Wicked Opaque Colors: Coverage-focused colors developed for strong adhesion and solid color application on models, hobby projects, cosplay, custom graphics, and prepared hard surfaces.
  • Wicked Fluorescent Colors: Bright fluorescent shades for high-visibility and UV-reactive effects where vivid neon color is desired.
  • Wicked Pearl & Metallic Colors: Pearlized, metallic, aluminum, and specialty reflective finishes designed for dimensional and metallic effects.
  • Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors: Pearl and effect flakes suspended in a transparent acrylic base, including Hot Rod Sparkle, Cosmic Sparkle, Hi-Lite, and other specialty effects.
  • Wicked Paint Sets: Coordinated primary, opaque, detail, pearl, fluorescent, specialty, and larger color assortments for different workflows.

Multi-Surface Wicked Airbrush Paint

Wicked Colors are formulated as a versatile multi-surface paint system. Depending on the substrate and intended use, colors may be sprayed directly or combined with compatible Createx mixing clears and reducers.

  • Scale models and hobby projects
  • Automotive-style graphics and custom painting
  • Helmets and prepared hard surfaces
  • RC bodies and model components
  • Cosplay, props, and costuming
  • Canvas and illustration work
  • Textiles and fabric applications
  • Custom graphics and decorative painting

Transparent, Detail & Opaque Wicked Colors

Wicked Transparent, Detail, and Opaque Colors each provide a different balance of coverage and spray behavior.

  • Transparent Colors: Useful for layering, gradients, shading, and color buildup while allowing the underlying surface or previous layers to influence the finished appearance.
  • Detail Colors: More translucent than standard Wicked Colors and designed around smaller resin particles for improved atomization at lower pressure. Detail Colors dry matte.
  • Opaque Colors: Designed for stronger coverage and direct adhesion, with the ability to be reduced further when finer spray performance is required.

Pearl, Metallic & Pearl-Flake Effects

The Wicked system also includes a broad range of specialty-effect paints for reflective, metallic, pearlized, and dimensional finishes.

  • Pearl Colors: Pigment-toned pearl colors that create prismatic and pearlescent finishes.
  • Metallic Colors: Metallic shades designed for semi-opaque coverage and reflective finishes.
  • Aluminum Colors: Fine, medium, and coarse aluminum-flake options for different metallic textures.
  • Pearl-Flake Colors: Transparent suspensions containing pearl flakes for sparkle, highlight, color-shift, and dimensional effects.

Createx recommends 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear as a mixing clear for improved pearl and metallic particle orientation when a more uniform effect is desired.

Airbrush Setup & Reducing Wicked Colors

Wicked Colors can be sprayed directly from the bottle with suitable equipment, but thinning is often useful for smaller airbrush tips, lower pressure, and finer atomization.

  • 4011 Reducer: The standard Createx reducer for Wicked Colors and the rest of the current Createx paint system.
  • General starting point: Around 10% 4011 Reducer is commonly used as an initial adjustment, with the final amount based on the specific color, tip size, air pressure, and technique.
  • 4030 Balancing Clear: Can be incorporated into many Wicked Colors applications to support adhesion and spray performance on compatible hard surfaces.
  • 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear: A newer mixing clear that is especially useful with pearl, metallic, candy2o, and pearl-flake applications.
