Createx Wicked Detail Colors for Fine Airbrush Control

Createx Wicked Detail Colors are transparent, water-based airbrush paints developed for detailed painting, controlled shading, fine gradients, illustration, models, custom graphics, and other applications where smooth atomization and precise color buildup are important. Compared with standard Wicked Colors, Detail Colors are more translucent, lower in viscosity, and dry to a matte finish.

Wicked Detail Colors in This Collection

The Wicked Detail palette combines primary colors, blues, greens, reds, earth tones, neutrals, flesh tones, and specialty shades for detailed color mixing and layered airbrush work.

  • Core Colors: Detail White W050, Detail Black W051, Yellow W052, Scarlet W053, Orange W054, and Violet W055.
  • Blues & Greens: Red Violet, Blue Violet, Blue Green, Moss Green, Viridian, Cobalt Blue, and Cerulean Blue.
  • Reds & Warm Colors: Carmine, Magenta, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Orange, and Burnt Sienna.
  • Earth & Neutral Colors: Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Sepia, Paynes Grey, and Smoke Black.
  • Flesh & Specialty Tones: Flesh Tone, Black Magenta, Universal Fleshtone, and other colors for portrait, figure, model, and illustration work.
  • Paint Sets: Coordinated Wicked Detail sets provide multiple colors together for artists building a broader detail-painting palette.

More Transparent Than Standard Wicked Colors

Wicked Detail Colors are formulated differently from the standard Wicked graphic-color range. Their smaller resin particle size and lower viscosity support more controlled atomization and transparent color buildup.

  • Transparent from the bottle: Useful for gradual shading, fades, tonal adjustments, and layered color work.
  • Buildable saturation: Multiple light coats allow color intensity to be developed gradually.
  • Lower viscosity: Makes Detail Colors better suited to finer airbrush work than heavier Wicked formulations.
  • Matte finish: Detail Colors dry matte rather than the satin appearance associated with many standard Wicked Colors.

Fine Atomization & Low-Pressure Airbrushing

Createx makes Wicked Detail Colors with a smaller, sub-micron acrylic resin particle. This helps the paint atomize efficiently and supports controlled spraying at lower pressure settings.

  • 0.35 mm airbrush or larger: Detail Colors are designed to spray transparent directly from the bottle with a 0.35 mm tip-size or larger.
  • Smaller tip sizes: Thin with 4011 Reducer as needed for finer airbrush setups.
  • Low-pressure work: Their lower viscosity and fine resin structure make Detail Colors useful when softer atomization and controlled paint delivery are required.
  • Fine detail: Suitable for tight shading, thin transitions, illustration work, small models, and other detail-oriented applications.

4011 Reducer & Paint Transparency

Wicked Detail Colors can be used directly from the bottle with compatible equipment, but reduction provides additional control over viscosity, transparency, and spray characteristics.

  • 4011 Reducer: Use as needed to lower viscosity for smaller airbrush tips and finer atomization.
  • More reduction: Creates thinner, more transparent color for glazing, subtle shading, and gradual tonal buildup.
  • Adjust gradually: The final reduction should depend on the specific color, tip size, pressure, surface, and desired effect.
  • Transparent Base: Compatible transparent base can also be used when increased transparency is desired while retaining resin in the paint mixture.

Detail Colors for Multi-Surface Painting

Wicked Detail Colors are part of the multi-surface Wicked paint system and can be incorporated into a variety of artwork and custom-paint workflows when the substrate is prepared correctly.

  • Illustration and fine art
  • Scale models and miniature painting
  • Custom graphics and airbrush artwork
  • Canvas and paper
  • RC and hobby projects
  • Textile and fabric artwork
  • Prepared plastic, wood, metal, and other hard surfaces
  • Automotive-style custom graphics when used within the appropriate system

Wicked Detail vs. Wicked Transparent Colors

Both ranges can be used for transparent layering, but they have different spray characteristics.

  • Wicked Detail Colors: More translucent, lower in viscosity, matte drying, and designed around finer atomization and lower-pressure detail work.
  • Wicked Transparent Colors: Standard high-pigment Wicked graphic colors that provide stronger color and can cover semi-opaque straight from the bottle before being reduced for more transparency.
