CREATEX COLORS ‱ WICKED PEARL-FLAKE COLORS

Createx Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors for Sparkle & Color Effects

Createx Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors are specialty water-based paints made with pearl and effect flakes suspended in a transparent acrylic base. Designed for custom graphics, models, helmets, artwork, hobby projects, and prepared hard surfaces, the collection includes Hi-Lite, Hot Rod Sparkle, Cosmic Sparkle, Flair, and other effect colors for reflective, pearlescent, sparkle, and color-shifting finishes.

Wicked Pearl-Flake Families in This Collection

Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors include several effect families with different flake sizes and visual characteristics. Choosing the right type depends on whether the project needs a subtle pearl glow, coarse sparkle, refined metallic sparkle, or a color-shifting effect.

  • Hi-Lite Colors: Interference-style accent pearls that create a soft pearlescent glow, especially when viewed under direct light.
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Colors: Larger pearl flakes that produce a coarser sparkle effect approaching the appearance of traditional metal flake.
  • Cosmic Sparkle Colors: Smaller, uniformly shaped pearl flakes that create a more refined and evenly distributed sparkle compared with Hot Rod Sparkle.
  • Flair Colors: Color-shifting pearl-flake colors whose appearance changes with lighting and viewing angle.
  • Specialty Effects: Additional Wicked pearl and shine colors provide further options for metallic, reflective, and custom-effect workflows.

Hi-Lite Interference Colors

Wicked Hi-Lite Colors are accent pearls designed to create a subtle pearlescent glow. Their effect becomes more noticeable as direct light moves across the painted surface.

  • Hi-Lite Gold W400
  • Hi-Lite Orange W401
  • Hi-Lite Red W402
  • Hi-Lite Green W403
  • Hi-Lite Blue W404
  • Hi-Lite Purple W405

Hi-Lite colors can be applied over dark, metallic, pearl, or color-keyed bases depending on the desired effect. Light applications are useful when only a subtle pearl highlight is needed.

Hot Rod Sparkle Colors

Wicked Hot Rod Sparkle colors contain larger pearl flakes for a bold, coarse sparkle effect. Their larger particle size makes spray equipment selection especially important.

  • Hot Rod Sparkle White W420
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Spectrum W421
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Gold W422
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Blue W423
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Green W424
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Red W425
  • Hot Rod Sparkle Purple W426

Createx recommends a 0.5 mm airbrush tip or larger for Hot Rod Sparkle Colors to allow the larger pearl flakes to pass and orient properly during application.

Cosmic Sparkle Colors

Cosmic Sparkle Colors use smaller pearl flakes for a more uniform and refined sparkle effect. Their particles orient more evenly than the larger Hot Rod Sparkle flakes.

  • Cosmic Sparkle Silver W440
  • Cosmic Sparkle Gold W441
  • Cosmic Sparkle Red W442
  • Cosmic Sparkle Copper W443
  • Cosmic Sparkle Blue W444
  • Cosmic Sparkle Green W445
  • Cosmic Sparkle Autumn Red W446

Cosmic Sparkle can also be mixed with compatible Createx candy2o colors to create custom candy-pearl effects.

Wicked Flair Color-Shifting Effects

Wicked Flair Colors contain color-shifting pearl flakes suspended in a transparent base. Their appearance changes as the viewing angle and lighting move across the painted surface.

  • Flair Tint Violet W450
  • Flair Teal/Purple W451
  • Flair Blue/Copper W452
  • Flair Silver Spectrum W453
  • Additional Flair color combinations in the Wicked effect range

Flair Colors are traditionally applied over a dark base such as black when a stronger color-shifting effect is desired.

Base Colors & Effect Orientation

Because Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors spray transparent, the underlying base plays an important role in the final appearance of the effect.

  • Black base: Traditionally used to increase contrast and make pearl and color-shifting effects more visible.
  • Color-keyed base: Allows the pearl-flake layer to complement an existing color and create a more integrated finish.
  • Metallic or pearl base: Useful with Hi-Lite colors when additional reflective dimension is desired.
  • Light coats: Help maintain transparency while allowing pearl particles to remain visible rather than being buried under excessive material.

Extending & Reducing Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors

Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors are concentrated in the bottle and can be extended before spraying to improve particle orientation and adjust the strength of the effect.

  • 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear: Createx recommends mixing Pearl-Flake Colors approximately 1:1 with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear for improved orientation and a more workable pearl-flake mixture.
  • 4011 Reducer: After adding the mixing clear, thin as needed with 4011 Reducer for the airbrush or spray-gun setup.
  • 4004 Transparent Base: May also be used to extend Pearl-Flake Colors while maintaining a transparent acrylic base.
  • 4030 Balancing Clear: Another compatible mixing option within the Wicked paint system.

Final reduction depends on the specific Pearl-Flake family, particle size, airbrush tip, spray pressure, and desired visual effect.

Choosing an Airbrush Tip Size

Pearl-Flake particle size varies between Wicked effect families, so the correct tip size helps improve spray consistency and reduces the chance of restricting flake movement.

  • Hot Rod Sparkle: Use a 0.5 mm airbrush tip or larger.
  • Cosmic Sparkle: Can be sprayed through approximately 0.3 mm or 0.5 mm airbrush setups depending on reduction and spray conditions.
  • Hi-Lite & Flair Colors: A 0.5 mm or larger airbrush provides a practical starting point for reliable effect-particle delivery.

Clear-Coating Pearl-Flake Effects

A gloss clear helps reveal the depth and reflective character of Wicked Pearl-Flake Colors after the effect layer has dried properly.

  • Art & hobby projects: Createx 4053 UVLS High Gloss Clear can be used as a finishing clear for compatible interior and art applications.
  • Automotive & exterior projects: Createx recommends an appropriate catalyzed 2K urethane gloss clear as the final top coat.

Always allow the Pearl-Flake layer to dry and cure according to the applicable Createx technical instructions before applying a final clear.
