Createx Illustration Colors are low-viscosity, water-based acrylic airbrush paints developed for refined atomization, controlled color buildup, shading, gradients, and detail-oriented painting. This collection brings together the core Illustration Colors palette, CMYK colors, earth and neutral tones, transparent base, selected supporting products, and coordinated paint sets for illustration, models, custom graphics, portraits, and fine-detail art.

The standard Illustration Colors palette includes a broad range of transparent colors that can be layered, intermixed, and adjusted for different levels of saturation and transparency.

Made for Refined Atomization & Detail Control

Createx Illustration Colors are formulated specifically for detail-focused airbrushing. Their low viscosity allows controlled atomization and gradual color buildup without requiring the heavier spray setup commonly used for thicker paint systems.

Transparent Color for Layering & Shading

Most standard Illustration Colors are transparent with a high pigment load. They may appear more saturated when applied heavily, while lighter applications allow underlying colors and values to remain visible.

  • Layering: Build multiple controlled coats to gradually increase saturation.
  • Shading: Transparent color is useful for shadows, tonal adjustments, and gradual value changes.
  • Gradients & fades: Controlled atomization supports smooth transitions between colors and values.
  • Custom transparency: 5090 Transparent Base can be mixed with Illustration Colors to extend the paint and create more transparent applications.

Soft Erasing & Reductive Illustration Techniques

A distinctive feature of the Illustration Colors resin system is its delayed final cure. During the open working period, artists can use soft-erasing and other reductive techniques to manipulate previously applied color.

  • Soft highlights: Small amounts of paint can be removed to create gradual highlights.
  • Texture creation: Reductive techniques can help create pores, surface texture, reflections, and other fine details.
  • Controlled corrections: The working period allows subtle adjustments before the paint reaches its final cure.

Createx identifies an approximately 48-hour open-cure period for Illustration Colors under suitable conditions before the coating develops its harder final cure.

Airbrush Setup & Reduction

Standard Illustration Colors can spray directly from the bottle through approximately a 0.3 mm airbrush tip or larger. Reduction can be used when greater transparency, lower viscosity, or improved flow through smaller tips is desired.

  • 4011 Reducer: The current Createx reducer recommended for Illustration Colors.
  • General airbrush range: Approximately 5%–20% 4011 Reducer by volume is the general Createx starting guideline for airbrush application.
  • 5090 Transparent Base: Can be mixed with Illustration Colors in any ratio to extend the color and increase transparency without relying only on reducer.
  • Adjust by setup: Final reduction depends on color viscosity, airbrush tip size, pressure, technique, and desired transparency.
