Natural Earth-Toned Foundation

Rootpath provides a grounded earth tone for miniature schemes built around muted, natural, and weathered colors. It works comfortably alongside browns, ochres, tans, greens, and neutral shades without introducing an overly bright or saturated appearance.

Soil, Dirt and Scenic Bases

Rootpath is well suited to soil, dirt paths, earth, rubble, dried ground, woodland bases, and other scenic miniature surfaces.

Combine it with darker browns in recesses and lighter ochres or tans across raised texture to create more visible separation between shadows, midtones, and highlights.

Tree Roots and Weathered Wood

The natural earth tone works across tree roots, branches, timber, barricades, wooden equipment, ruined structures, and other aged wooden details.

Varying the amount of Rootpath across the grain and raised texture can help prevent wooden surfaces from appearing uniform while supporting a worn, organic finish.

Leather and Equipment

Use Rootpath on straps, pouches, packs, belts, boots, weapon wraps, cases, and other equipment where a subdued natural color complements the overall miniature.

Preserve darker colors around seams, folds, buckles, and recessed areas, then apply lighter earth tones selectively to exposed edges and raised surfaces.

Weathered Armor and Machinery

Rootpath can be introduced into weathered armor, vehicles, machinery, weapons, containers, and industrial scenery when earthy staining or battle-worn variation is desired.

Use controlled applications rather than covering every surface uniformly so the earth tone works together with the underlying armor color and surrounding weathering effects.

Organic Skin and Mottled Effects

Rootpath can also be incorporated into unusual skin and organic color schemes. Its subdued character works well where creatures, demons, or diseased subjects require mottled, unhealthy, or earthy coloration.

Apply thin irregular layers alongside related natural colors to introduce subtle variation while allowing parts of the previous layer to remain visible.

Cloth and Natural Fabrics

Rootpath can provide an earthy foundation for robes, uniforms, wraps, cloaks, sacks, tents, and other fabric surfaces.

Keep the deeper color visible inside folds and shaded areas, then introduce lighter tan, ochre, or neutral colors across progressively smaller raised sections.

Layering Earth Tones

Begin with darker earth colors in the deepest areas and apply Rootpath over the more exposed surfaces, leaving portions of the underlying shade visible.

Continue toward lighter tan or ochre colors across smaller areas to create controlled separation without losing the grounded character of the Rootpath layer.

Mixing Intermediate Tones

Rootpath can be mixed with nearby earth, tan, or ochre colors when a smoother transition between layers is required.

Gradually increase the lighter color in successive mixtures while reducing the painted area toward the final highlights.

Glazing and Weathering

Thin Rootpath gradually with water or a compatible acrylic medium when creating glazes, stains, or subtle earth-tone adjustments.

Several controlled thin applications provide greater control than one heavy coat and allow the underlying texture, shading, and highlights to remain visible.

Warpaints Fanatic uses a pigment-dense acrylic formulation in a premium resin base with proprietary stabilizers for smooth application, strong coverage, and consistent brush control.

The formula can be thinned substantially while retaining pigment dispersion, supporting layering, glazing, blending, and detailed miniature painting techniques.

How to Use

• Shake the bottle thoroughly for approximately 30 seconds.
• Dispense a small amount onto a palette.
• Check that the pigment is evenly mixed before painting.
• Apply thin, controlled coats over a clean, dry, and primed surface.
• Add water or compatible acrylic medium gradually when thinning.
• Allow each layer to dry before introducing the next color.
• Keep darker colors visible in recesses when building lighter layers.
• Apply progressively lighter earth tones over smaller raised areas.
• Use a fine brush for edges, texture, and smaller details.

Highlight Placement

Apply lighter earth and ochre colors to raised cloth folds, wood grain, leather edges, terrain texture, armor corners, creature features, and surfaces facing stronger light.

Restrict the brightest highlights to selected focal areas so the underlying Rootpath layer continues to provide visible depth and natural color variation.
