The Createx 4020 Automotive Reducer is a specialty thinner designed specifically for use in humid or cold conditions. This unique product ensures that your painting experience remains optimized, even in less-than-ideal weather conditions.
One of the standout features of this reducer is its compatibility with Wicked Colors. You can mix this reducer directly with Wicked Colors or combine it with the 4012 High Performance Reducer to create a well-balanced mix of solvents. This balanced mix not only allows the colors to flow smoothly but also ensures that they dry quickly without any issues of seed formation in the cup. For the best results, we recommend starting with a mix of 4012 High Performance Reducer and 4020 Automotive Reducer in a ratio of 3:1 (with 25% 4020 per volume).
The Createx 4020 Automotive Reducer contains a composition of Acetone and Glycol Ethers. This carefully formulated combination of solvents helps to enhance the performance of the reducer and ensures that your painting process is efficient and effective.
It is important to note that this reducer should only be used in controlled spray environments with sufficient ventilation. The safety of our customers is of utmost importance to us, and we highly recommend the use of a NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator when working with this product.

Dilutant
4020 assists drying and curing in humid conditions.
4020 is a specialty additive, not to replace 4012 the standard dilutant for all Createx Colors paint.
4020 works best by mixing with 4012 to create a cocktailed dilutant. Diluting Createx paints with 4020 alone is not recommended as paint may prematurely cure, seed in the cup and create cured paint particle contaminants.
4020 is best added to 4012 in small increments. Excess amounts of 4020 may create adverse reactions (“solvent pop”) when the paint is top-coated with a catalyzed clear, especially when applying heavier coats with a spray-gun.
Mix ratios for adding 4020 to 4012 vary, but generally:
- Airbrush: Mix 4012 1:1 4020
- Spray-gun: Mix 4012 3:1 4020
Preparatory Cleaner
4020 may be used to clean surfaces of oils prior to paint. Wiping substrates such as plastics with 4020 prior to paint ensures application to a clean surface. Allow enough time for 4020 to fully flash off substrate before applying paint.
Pot-Life & Storage
After adding 4020, there is no pot life. However, the acetone in 4020 rapidly flashes water from paint, so if left open paint will thicken due to accelerated evaporation.
Only add 4020 to paint intended for use that day. Long term storage of paint mixed with 4020 is not recommended.
4012 / 4020 dilutant mixtures may be stored by keeping air tight in a LDPE (low density polyethylene) bottle, in a cabinet approved for storage of volatile materials. Keep in a cool, dry environment away from open flame sources.
Drying Times
Estimated drying and curing times are set at 70 degrees F and 65% or less relative humidity (RH).
- Use air to assist curing and shorten drying times.
- Humid conditions – add 4020 to 4012 for assisted flashing (drying) and curing when painting in conditions of 70% relative humidity or greater.
Health & Safety
Use in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after use. Do not ingest.
When spraying or sanding, use a properly-fitting NIOSH approved respirator per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Skin contact: Thoroughly wash with soap and warm water. Wearing gloves is recommended.
Eye contact: Rinse with clean water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Use in in well ventilated areas and wear a NIOSH approved respirator.
