What’s in This Collection

The Rail Center Thinner & Finishes collection contains four acrylic-focused products for painting and finishing workflows:

  • Acrylic Thinner: Used to adjust the consistency of compatible Rail Center acrylic colors according to the painting method and application requirements.
  • Flat Finish: Provides a low-sheen appearance for models and surfaces where a flatter final look is preferred.

Rail Center Acrylic Thinner

AMMO by MIG Rail Center Acrylic Thinner is intended for use with compatible acrylic colors when the paint consistency needs to be adjusted for the selected application method.

The amount of thinner required can vary depending on the paint, painting technique, airbrush setup, and desired consistency. Follow the instructions for the individual paint and thinner when preparing the mixture.

Flat Finish

The Rail Center Flat Finish is used when a low-sheen or matte-looking final surface is preferred. Flat finishes can be useful on railway subjects where highly reflective surfaces would not match the intended appearance.

The final appearance can depend on application thickness, underlying paint layers, and surface preparation, so test the finish when working toward a specific result.

Satin Finish

The Rail Center Satin Finish provides a surface sheen between flat and gloss. It can be useful when a model requires some reflectivity without the stronger shine associated with a gloss finish.

Satin can be considered for locomotives, rolling stock, structures, and other surfaces depending on the prototype and desired final appearance.

Gloss Finish

The Rail Center Gloss Finish provides the highest sheen of the three finish options in this collection. It can be used where a smoother, more reflective final appearance is appropriate for the model or finishing process.

Always allow underlying paint layers to dry or cure as required before applying another finishing product.

Choosing Flat, Satin or Gloss

Selecting the right finish depends on the surface being modeled and the appearance you want to reproduce.

  • Flat: Best considered when minimal surface reflection is desired.
  • Satin: Useful for a controlled intermediate sheen between flat and gloss.
  • Gloss: Appropriate when a noticeably reflective surface is required.
