Createx Opaque Airbrush Colors for Solid Coverage

Createx Opaque Airbrush Colors are water-based fluid acrylic paints formulated for stronger coverage and solid color application. Part of the Createx Airbrush Colors line, these paints are especially suited to textile work, illustration, crafts, hobby painting, custom artwork, and other applications where a more opaque paint layer is preferred.

Opaque Colors in This Collection

The Createx Opaque range includes individual colors and coordinated sets for building a practical solid-color palette.

  • Primary & Core Colors: Options such as Opaque Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and White provide useful foundation colors for general painting and color mixing.
  • Extended Colors: Shades such as Purple, Aqua, Sky Blue, Light Green, Lilac, Coral, and Surf expand the palette for custom artwork and creative projects.
  • Opaque Color Sets: Coordinated assortments provide multiple opaque colors in one collection for users who need a broader working palette.

Designed for Stronger Paint Coverage

Createx Opaque Airbrush Colors are formulated to cover more strongly than the Transparent Airbrush Colors. Createx states that the opaque colors can achieve opaque coverage from the bottle in approximately two to three coats when applied with suitable equipment and technique.

  • Solid color application: Useful for base colors, blocks of color, backgrounds, graphics, highlights, and areas where transparency is not desired.
  • Semi-gloss finish: The colors dry to a semi-gloss appearance as part of the Createx Airbrush Colors system.
  • Lightfast pigments: Createx formulates the standard Opaque Airbrush Colors with lightfast pigments.
  • Intermixable colors: Individual shades can be combined to create custom colors within the Createx Airbrush Colors system.

Airbrush Tip Size & Spray Setup

Opaque Airbrush Colors contain more pigment for coverage and therefore perform best with larger airbrush tip sizes and higher operating pressures compared with Createx paint lines intended specifically for fine-detail spraying.

  • Recommended airbrush size: A 0.5 mm or larger tip is the preferred starting point for spraying Opaque Airbrush Colors directly from the bottle.
  • Air pressure: Createx recommends approximately 35–45+ psi for unreduced opaque colors with a larger tip setup.
  • Smaller airbrushes: These colors are not intended primarily for tips smaller than 0.35 mm. For very small tips and low-pressure fine-detail work, Createx Illustration Opaque Colors are a more suitable option.

Reducing Createx Opaque Airbrush Colors

4011 Reducer is the standard Createx reducer for adjusting paint viscosity and improving flow and atomization when reduction is needed.

  • 0.5 mm airbrush: Approximately 10% 4011 Reducer by volume is a common starting point.
  • General reduction range: Createx lists approximately 10%–30% 4011 Reducer depending on tip size, color, equipment, and painting technique.
  • After reducing: Allow the reduced paint to rest for about 10 minutes before spraying for improved flow and leveling.

Reduction should be adjusted for the specific airbrush, color, pressure, and application rather than treated as one fixed ratio for every setup.

Opaque Colors for Textiles, Art & Prepared Surfaces

Createx Airbrush Colors are especially well suited to fabric and textile painting. Opaque colors can also be incorporated into other creative and hard-surface workflows when the substrate is correctly prepared and the appropriate Createx supporting products are used.

  • T-shirts and textile painting
  • Canvas and illustration
  • Arts, crafts, and decorative work
  • Scale models and hobby projects
  • Custom graphics
  • Properly prepared plastic, wood, aluminum, and other hard surfaces

For harder surfaces, Createx recommends adding a compatible mixing clear such as 4030 Balancing Clear or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear when additional adhesion and durability are required.
