Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder (5607)

The Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder (5607) is the perfect solution for artists and hobbyists who want to extend the drying time of their paints. This water-based retarder is specifically designed to slow down the drying process, allowing for more flexibility and control in your artwork.

If you live in a dry climate where paints tend to dry quickly, this retarder is a must-have tool in your collection. It helps to keep the paint workable for longer periods, preventing it from drying out on the airbrush tip or surface. This is particularly beneficial for artists who require more time to achieve smooth gradients and blend colors seamlessly.

One of the key features of the Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder is its formulation with lightfast pigments. This ensures that your artwork remains vibrant and true to color over time, providing long-lasting results. However, it's important to note that this exception does not apply to fluorescent colors.

To achieve optimal results, it is recommended to operate the airbrush at a pressure of 40-50 PSI with a 0.5mm tip. If you are using smaller tip sizes, it is advised to reduce the retarder with Createx 5601 Transparent Base. This will help to maintain the proper consistency and ensure smooth application.

For washfast results and increased adhesion on hard surfaces, plastic, and vinyl, it is recommended to mix the Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder with Createx 4030 additive. The ideal proportion for this mixture is 10-30% per volume, which will not only enhance the durability of your artwork but also improve its overall adhesion.

Whether you are a professional artist or just starting out with airbrushing, the Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder (5607) is a valuable tool that allows you to work at your own pace. With its ability to extend drying time and compatibility with various surfaces, it opens up a world of possibilities for your creativity.

5607 Retarder
Contains Propylene Glycol

Updated December 2023. Supersedes all previous editions

5607 Retarder is a mix additive intended to lessen tip-dry when painting in arid or dry conditions.

5607 Retarder contains propylene glycol, which slows down the drying process, allowing for more working time and reducing the risk of the paint drying in the airbrush tip (tip-dry).

5607 Retarder is intended to be used in very sparing amounts.

  • Propylene glycol can affect the final finish and durability of the paint.
  • Paint may take longer to reach its full hardness and durability after adding 5607.
  • Adding too much 5607 may impact adhesion and durability of the final coating, creating a failure.

5607 Retarder can be either added direct to the paint or added to a thinner such as 4011 Reducer.

Adding 5607 Retarder to a thinner such as 4011 Reducer allows for the propylene-glycol to be introduced to the paint in a more limited amount cm pared to directly adding to the paint which can significantly change the behavior of the paint, especially adhesion and the hardness of the cured coating.

There is no set mix ratio for adding 5607 Retarder to paint or to 4011 Reducer.

  • Generally, add one drop of 5607 to one drop of 0.5oz. of paint.
  • Generally more 5607 is added to 4011 Reducer compared to adding it to paint, for example, add 2 or 3 drops of 5607 Retarder to 0.5oz. of 4011 Reducer.

When using 5607 Retarder for the first time, always test the drying, adhesion, and hardness of the cured paint on a test panel before using on an actual paint project.

Pot-Life & Storage

5607 Retarder does not have a pot-life.

  • When stored properly, 5607 Retarder can be kept and used well over 10 years.
  • Keep stored in a cool dry environment away from cold or hot temperatures, best kept at a range of 60°F - 80°F.

Grex Tritium.TS3 pistol grip airbrush

GREX is an excellent price point for the beginning AB artist. Regardless of the style art; models, skateboards, fine art, the GREX line is unique in that one body can be changed to 4 separate needle sizes. And from a round cap to a fan cap. A precision tool with some quality design features. Great price point for an entry artist wanting future options.

5607 Retarder

A necessity when you're having trouble with the paint drying to quickly and to prevent tip dry on your airbrush. Great price from spraygunner too!

Great product

The retarder works well for tip drying. It helps if you don't clean your airbrush right away.

Createx Airbrush Colors Retarder (5607)

I live in a part of the U.S. that has very low humidity and hot temperatures in the summer. A little retarder helps slow the drying time to give a better final result.
