Createx AutoBorne Sealers for Automotive & Hard-Surface Painting

Createx AutoBorne Sealers are water-based acrylic primer-sealers designed as a starting ground coat for Createx paints on hard surfaces. They provide a level, color-keyed foundation for automotive painting, custom graphics, fabrication projects, models, and other hard-surface applications while supporting adhesion and consistent color coverage.

Why Use Createx AutoBorne Sealer?

AutoBorne Sealer creates a uniform foundation between the prepared surface and the Createx color coats applied over it. The sealer dries to a hard, level coating that helps Createx paints flow evenly and provides a suitable ground for subsequent color application.

  • Starting ground coat: Designed for use underneath Createx paints on properly prepared hard surfaces.
  • Excellent adhesion: Provides a strong foundation on many substrates including plastic, fiberglass, wood, aluminum, ceramic, polycarbonate, and selected 3D-print materials.
  • Color-keyed foundation: Different sealer colors can be matched to the color coat to help improve overall coverage and color development.
  • Level finish: AutoBorne Sealer dries level and can be lightly dry sanded when surface texture needs to be refined before painting.

AutoBorne Sealer Colors

The AutoBorne range includes neutral and colored sealers that allow painters to select a foundation based on the colors being applied over it. Choosing an appropriate sealer color can help create a more consistent base and improve coverage.

  • White Sealer: A useful foundation beneath lighter and brighter color coats.
  • Black Sealer: Commonly used beneath darker colors, metallic effects, and finishes that benefit from a dark ground.
  • Grey Sealer: A versatile neutral foundation suitable for a wide range of colors.
  • Colored Sealers: Options such as blue, yellow, orange, green, tan, burgundy, silver, and other shades allow the ground coat to be color-keyed more closely to the planned finish.
  • 6000 Transparent Sealer: A clear primer-sealer that can also be used as an inter-coat, flake carrier, and adhesion promoter for many plastics including polycarbonate.

Surface preparation should match the substrate and intended application. For automotive and exterior metal work, follow the applicable Createx preparation and primer recommendations before applying AutoBorne Sealer.

Reducing & Applying AutoBorne Sealer

Createx recommends reducing AutoBorne Sealer with 4011 Reducer when reduction is needed. Application settings vary depending on whether an airbrush, mini-gun, or spray gun is being used.

  • Reduction: Add approximately 5%–10% 4011 Reducer by volume as a general starting range.
  • Airbrush: A larger 0.5 mm or greater tip size is recommended, with reduction adjusted as needed for proper atomization and flow.
  • Spray gun: A 1.2–1.4 mm tip size is recommended, following the spray-gun manufacturer's pressure settings.
  • Coating: Apply medium-wet coats with an overlapping spray pattern and allow the sealer to dry matte before recoating or applying Createx paint.
  • Sanding: Sanding is not normally required for adhesion before applying Createx paint, although the dry sealer may be lightly sanded when needed to smooth surface texture.

Color-Keying AutoBorne Sealer with Createx Paint

Color-keying means selecting a sealer shade that works with the color being sprayed over it. A lighter ground can support bright colors, while darker or coordinated sealer colors can provide a more suitable foundation for darker, metallic, or specialty finishes.

This approach can help improve coverage and create a more consistent starting point before applying the final Createx color system.
