ChromaAir Metallic Paint Water-Based Airbrush Ready Color

Color: Aluminum

Volume: 2oz., 16oz., or 128oz.

New ChromaAir Metallic Paints! This Aluminum Color offers incredible coverage. Can be sprayed over any color. Perfect as a base color for candy projects. Super fine pigment. Can be applied even with .3mm airbrush. Full-size spray gun friendly. Suitable for any size project, from scale-models to automotive and other custom-painting projects.

Universal water-based acrylic urethane airbrush paint. ChromaAir Paints offer the strength, durability, and adhesion of automotive urethanes combined with the easy spraying performance of acrylics.

Also, they are sandable! ChromaAir Paints are water-based which means no bad smell from solvents, non-explosive and are, generally speaking, safer to spray than solvent-based paints (safety first! -you should always wear a NIOSH approved respirator and spray in a well-ventilated area!).

ChromaAir Paints are suitable for many applications from general-purpose, fine art, fishing lures, scale modeling and more.

ChromaAir Paints can be mixed with almost any other water-based acrylic paint (Createx, Custom Creative, Inspire H2O, etc..) and also offer a 2-year shelf life.

Reducing:

Can be reduced with ChromaAir reducer or almost any water-based acrylic paint thinner (example: Createx 4011 Reducer).

Can be reduced with distilled or deionized water.

For fine detail work, can be reduced with 70% isopropyl alcohol (DO NOT use this as a reducer for paint when spraying large areas).

The viscosity of paints varies from color to color (different pigment density) but generally, it can be sprayed directly from the bottle through 0.5mm fluid nozzles and larger.

Application: (optimal spraying conditions: 60-80 degree Fahrenheit + low humidity) Always start by cleaning your surface to be painted. Always spray a test panel before spraying your project. Allow 10-15 minutes flash time in between coats (if humid or cold allow more time). Full cure at 48 hours. Can be sanded when necessary.

Cleaning: Use the same product for reducing and cleaning (see reducing). DO NOT USE for face painting, skin/body or food products.

Nice Aluminum Paint If Thinned Properly

I was initially surprised when I went to use the "airbrush ready" ChromaAir paint, only to discover that the paint had the viscosity of Elmers glue (and yes, I shook the bottle thoroughly.) It obviously must be significantly thinned before use. My usual method for trying a new paint is to spray it onto a plastic spoon, typically over a good primer. My first attempt with the ChromaAir Aluminum was over a gray primer from Scalefinishes, using Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner. This approach didn't work well at all, with the paint laying down OK, but drying in a very blotchy and uneven finish. I then ordered and tried some urethane reducer, which was completely incompatible with the ChromaAir paint - the paint formed a blob and wouldn't mix with the thinner. I then tried my fall-back thinner, Mr. Color Self Leveling 400. Finally, this worked great, giving a nice, bright, fine-grained aluminum finish. It did show every little flaw and scratch in the primer, so you need a very smooth base. It would be nice if SprayGunner sold a compatible thinner for this paint, because it is absolutely necessary for airbrushing.
