    A Giant Step Forward

Posted by Richard Wagener on Apr 29th 2020

With the quarantine, forcing me inside to work on hobbies, but also closing of the local stores, I was a bit in a state trying to do even basic airbrushing. I have a second hand Badger single-acting airbrush, which works good for base coating and priming. A Harbor Freight cheap double-acting (which worked long enough to give me the itch) and a Sparmax double-acting. Each had their issues, with the Sparmax doing well, but I couldn't do detail well enough. In addition to model building, I paint miniatures, specifically Corvus Belli's Infinity range. Well, hearing about Harder & Steenbeck from other players, and Corvus Belli's pro-painter, I thought I would get one. As I said, no stores were open, so I went online and found spraygunner.com. It came in and after reading the instructions, I connected the airline, put in paint and f'ded it up. The paint I was trying to use was something I had tried to reconstitute, and thought it would have been perfect to practice with. It seemed to have the right texture, but it dried way to fast. Lets just say I learned how to tear the Evolution down and clean it. So I tried again, but with some Vallejo Model Air. The things I was able to do with the practice lines, circles and dots, were so beyond what I was able to do with the Sparmax. I grabbed one of my Infinity minis, that I had already primed, and was surprised at how fine of a line I could get. So pleased with amount of control I have, after I finish some model projects, I'll jump onto painting miniatures.
